The reading was enjoyable for the most part, but for the majority of time I was reading it I felt that the environment that Madame Esme had created for her students as well as the material being covered in her fifth grade class seemed to be more appropriate for a younger grade. She noted that a lot of her students were in varying levels of being able to read and write, which is something that I had to prove proficiency in when I was at least in second grade. Also, the way Madame Esme had the room decorated also seemed to be more fitting for a lower grade, however my experience going to public schools in Pennsylvania could be completely different than the way things are done in Chicago.

All that aside, Madame Esme seems to be an excellent teacher, even in her first year. Not once has it been stated that there was a situation that she couldn't handle with grace, and her children respect her very well judging on how they behave in the class. I don't think that I would be able to achieve that type of respect from my students in my first few years of teaching (if I became a teacher), and I would definitely be way to flustered and nervous, and that wouldn't help me at all at trying to gain respect. She's also very good at getting her point across subtly to people, which I like a lot and I think those parts of the book are the most enjoyable for me.
